What is this workshop?

This workshop aims to expose middle school students to the basics of programming through firsthand experience with Lego Mindstorms. Lessons will allow students to create their own solutions to the 2016 FIRST FLL challenge, created by the FIRST organization. Experienced members of the Cupertino High School FIRST Robotics club will mentor students and help them succeed.

What

We'll be teaching you how to work with the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit, in terms of both hardware and software.

Who

Students who are incoming middle school students can attend this class. Otherwise, you dont need any prerequisites to join!

Where

The workshop location will be determined at a further date.

Workshop Agenda

This workshop aims to introduce students to the FLL program over the course of 3 weeks with one meeting each Saturday. Each day, there will be stations for hardware and software, with rotations made every 55 minutes to ensure the participants have something new to do. This totals to three five-hour sessions. We'll be covering roughly the following content every day:

Our Mentors

On the right are our mentors, who are experienced individuals in Cupertino High School Robotics, whether it was in FLL (First Lego League), FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), or in FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). Each of them wishes to create an interest and joy in robotics for other students.

Every one of our mentors is a current or incoming mentor of Cupertino High School Robotics' First Lego League teams. Hover over their pictures to read more about each one of them.

I'm Ananya, a rising junior at CHS who had one year of FLL mentoring experience and two years of working in FTC. I've truly enjoyed my experience with FIRST so far and I would love to help others enjoy it too.

I’m Aryan, a rising junior at Cupertino High School and I've been in CHS Robotics for three years. Last year I was one of the mentors for the Lawson FLL team and I look forward to another fun and successful year of robotics

I’m Basel, a rising junior, I was one of the mentors of CHS FTC Robotics Team 11467, Tino Vanguard, as well as Hyde Middle School's FLL team in my sophomore year.

I’m Mokshith, a rising junior in CHS who is fascinated about Computer Science and its impact on our lives and has an extensive experience in FIRST. I've worked with FTC for 2 years and I've worked with FLL for one year.

I’m Nitish, a rising (grade) who has had (experience).

I’m Shruthi, a rising junior in CHS and I’ve really enjoyed FIRST and the many aspects of its programs, and I look forward to sharing this with others in our community.

I’m Sumayya, a rising junior in CHS and I was part of FTC at CHS Robotics for the Velocity Vortex Competition in my first year of robotics, and I look forward to being a mentor for FLL.

I’m Tejas, a rising 10th grader at Cupertino High School. I got exposure to robotics at a young age by participating in FLL, and I’m looking forward to continue being a part of the FTC program as well.

I’m Snekha, a rising junior at CHS. This year, I'm continuing robotics as a member of FRC and I can't wait to be a part of FLL with all the middle schoolers!
